Southern Rock Opera - Southern Rock Opera was an album released in 2001 by Drive-By Truckers, an alt-country band from Alabama. The album is a two-disc set that alternates songs about the career of Lynyrd Skynyrd and how their plane crash led to the downfall of Southern culture in the 1970s, with songs about a man growing up in Northern Alabama in the 1960s and 1970s and his reactions to the tumult of that time. The Kentucky Headhunters - The Kentucky Headhunters are an influential country rock group whose early albums were embraced by both country and rock fans, and maintain a cult following among alt-country fans to this day. One early review described their sound as "Bill Monroe meets Cream. Cassie's Brother - Cassie's Brother is a song written and performed by alt-country band Drive-By Truckers. It appeared on the band's 2001 album Southern Rock Opera, a rock opera based on the mythology surrounding the band Lynyrd Skynyrd.
